Research and Baseline Studies

Mitigating Adverse Environmental Impacts of Development Initiatives
Cab Lye offers a comprehensive range of specialist services through cutting edge expertise in environmental assessment. The company’s depth of experiences in environmental assessment for both public and private sector clients is vital in managing complex and sensitive projects. We have particular experience in developing assessment methodologies for comparing and evaluating alternatives, based on trade-offs between the cost, risk and the environmental and social impacts of different options. Capacity Building and Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCAs)
Cab Lye offers specialized training and short professional courses through seminars and workshops at the workplace. We value quality and comprehensive training, and ensure all training is conducted by qualified personnel. The trainings are tailored to the needs of each client. We also facilitate workshops including strategic planning and Organizational Development (OD) training, and provide prompt reports with well-articulated action plans. We use rigorous or flexible application of the Organizational Capacity Assessment Tools (OCAT) and other tools to assess the capacity of organizations and work with the client to map out a strengthening plan.
Strength-Based Approaches to Development
Cab Lye has expertise in strength-based approaches to community development such as asset based community development and appreciative inquiry. It is among one of the few firms in Kenya and Somalia with such expertise which focuses on the skills, talents, abilities, and local resources available among communities and builds on these to achieve the community’s goals. This is opposite to the ‘needs-based’ approach which only focuses on deficiencies and has had very minor successes in 50 years of development aid.

Political Economy Analysis
